Soil TERRA PRETА

“Terra Preta” consists of peat and charcoal. Charcoal is obtained by special thermal processing of wood waste or agricultural waste – pyrolysis (combustion without oxygen), carried out in several stages.

Manufactured in accordance with GOST R 53381-2009. Soils and grounds. Nutrient soils and TU.

As a result of processing the surface layer of the soil with charcoal, highly fertile soil is obtained that has:

  1. Inert properties, which can lie in the ground for many years without decomposing.
  2. High absorption, i.e. it can absorb excess harmful substances, such as aluminum oxides, which greatly inhibit the growth of the root system of plants.
  3. High porosity and, as a result, retains useful elements in the soil.
  4. The presence of transport corridors for mycorrhiza and bacteria.

Researchers have identified special areas of soil in Latin America. In those regions, the main red soils are not very fertile. But there are areas where the soil is black and very fertile.

The local population calls it “Terra Preta” – “black earth”. A study of this soil showed that it differs from neighboring red soils in only one way – it is saturated with charcoal. Apparently, the ancient Indians knew about the property of charcoal to increase soil fertility.

The discovery of “Terra Preta” attracted great interest from specialists. In 2008-2009, the Western scientific press was filled with publications about the effect of using charcoal to increase soil fertility. The term “biochar” came into use from the English words – biology and charcoal.

A number of research institutes conducted research in which they studied the properties of   “Terra Preta”. It was shown that its use contributes to a noticeable increase in yield, especially potatoes, root crops, and row crops.

Subsequently, a positive effect of biochar application under grapes, fruit trees, and shrubs was revealed

During the research, parallel plots were laid out. Charcoal was placed under one of them. Everything else was absolutely the same. But the yields on the plots with charcoal were invariably higher. Moreover, not only on root crops, but also on grains, vegetables, and fruit crops. Everyone started talking about the “third green revolution”

Current research has confirmed the benefits of biochar, which contribute to:

  • Reduction of nitrogen leaching into groundwater.
  • Reduction of nitrous oxide emissions.
  • Increase in cation exchange processes leading to increased soil fertility.
  • Reduction and stabilization of soil acidity.
  • Increase in water reserves.
  • Increase in the number of beneficial microbes in the soil.

Terra Preta can improve almost any soil. Areas with low rainfall or nutrient-poor soils benefit greatly from the use of biochar.
